Skilled assessment and effective treatment

The main difference between a remedial massage and other types of massage is that an experienced remedial therapist will provide a full physical consultation and a plan for your treatment beforehand. This ensures that the right massage techniques are used according to your specific clinical issues.

It’s more than a health screen. Our remedial massage therapists will ask you various questions about your condition, health and lifestyle. They’ll also examine your posture and run through a number of physical tests to assess exactly where you need treatment and why – in other words, what is causing your pain.

Remedial massage and sports rehabilitation

For new injuries we recommend waiting about 72 hours before booking an appointment for remedial massage. A recent injury or condition can usually be improved within a few treatments. A more longstanding, persistent pain problem may require a course of treatment and this will be discussed with you at your initial appointment.

To get the most out of a remedial massage treatment, we often recommend exercises to treat any underlying causes. We’ll send you these with video links so you can practice at home to prevent the problem from reoccurring.

How remedial massage can help

Remedial massage is used to treat conditions that affect your muscles, tendons or ligaments – your soft tissues – creating balance and relieving stress to promote pain-free movement and a sense of deep relaxation. It can help lots of conditions including:

  • Whiplash or neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Muscles spasm
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Chronic pain
  • Trigger points
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Joint stiffness
  • Headaches
  • Stress
  • Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS)

A skilled therapist may combine a number of different massage techniques like deep tissue massage, friction massage, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques and sports massage to achieve the best results.

With a remedial massage therapist your progress will also be regularly checked against the physical issues identified in your assessment, so you’ll be able to talk through the results of your treatment more clearly.
